Komwatch Newsletter 31 May 2011 It appears that I get a whole bunch of info as soon as I send out the newsletter. So much to tell and so little time …. Firstly, the guy the Komwatch RRT picked up last week at 04h30 was questioned and SAPS found 4 bicycles in his possession, the ones that were stolen from that resident in Kommetjie a week ago. This is the same guy who is charged with mugging that young girl in December, and seems to be a serial offender, and has now been linked to other robberies in Kommetjie. We … Continue reading

Newsletter 15th May 2011 It has been a relatively quiet two weeks on the crime front with a few incidents that I will detail for you. The greenbelt appears to be a great hiding spot for criminals and numerous items have been found. Thieves have apparently stolen goods and then been frightened off and have fled, leaving break-in equipment and stolen items as well. CID Update We have had our first meeting with Council and we were extremely excited to feel the support and drive they will provide us to guide us through the application process. We are starting to … Continue reading

Dear Richard Tappenden Newsletter 4th February 2011 KOMMETJIE IN CRISIS Hi all The Christmas and New Year period was once again a magnificent time to be in Kommetjie. However, crime was completely out of control with burglaries occurring almost nightly. We had muggings of children and adults, break-ins resulting in extensive losses to residents and visitors and numerous car-break-ins. Criminals have become fearless and will break into houses while people are awake or asleep to steal goods. Komwatch is finding itself powerless to fight this crime. We have an extremely dedicated Rapid Response Team (individuals running their own businesses and … Continue reading

Dear Richard Tappenden Newsletter 16th December 2010 As we all wind down towards a well-deserved break, the unfortunate consequence of more holiday makers and more loiterers is crime. Crime In spite of the very successful arrest Komwatch has made over the past few weeks, criminals have continued to rule our daily lives with burglaries and car thefts continuing. This time of the year is one where many criminals are released on parole, and it is also a time when holiday-makers fill Kommetjie. We need to be highly vigilant as opportunists are waiting for our guards to be dropped. Strategy against … Continue reading

Subject: Newsletter – 10th August 2010   Dear Richard Tappenden While the World Cup and getting-back-to-work-after-the-World Cup has left Komwatch quiet on the communication side, the workings behind Komwatch has remained very active. LOW CRIME LEVELS We can thankfully say that crime over the World Cup and since then has been extremely low. This can be largely attributed to: SAPS – who re-arrested a number of known thieves who were given “pardon” 6 weeks before the World Cup. The escalation of crime we experienced in Kommetjie over that period was directly linked to these criminals. Komwatch patrollers – Have maintained … Continue reading

The heavens have opened in more ways than one! Strong winds and heavy downpours came with vengeance on Sunday. So too did the criminal element, with no fewer than 18 reported crimes over the weekend. These ranged from a burglary in Klein Slangkop where electronic equipment was clinically removed while the occupants were sleeping upstairs, to household robberies and attempted robberies, car break-ins and damage to property. We thus urgently need a heavy patrol presence to stop the rot. For those patrollers who know the ropes but have dropped off the patrols for some reason or other, PLEASE come back … Continue reading

Attached is a note written by the CSS (Community Security Services) who are actively involved in giving advice to individuals and neighbourhood watches. They have a great presence in the southern suburbs and it is disturbing to see the trends they are picking up. CRIME IS AN ISSUE The criminal mind is constantly adapting to overcome existing barriers and being in my current position where I’m in constant communication with crime prevention organizations and security companies I thought I would share the information that I am gathering in the form of a newsletter. I am trying to gather important information … Continue reading
