Kommetjie Road, Fish Hoek – call to action Dear Geoff Our community has been shocked and shattered once more by the death of another innocent victim on Kommetjie Road in Fish Hoek. Over the years this notoriously dangerous road has been the subject of actions, meetings and letters to the media. Measures have been taken, but tragic accidents are still occurring. We realise that it is driver behaviour and attitude that needs to change. Even so, we are driven to use whatever means we can to make this road safe for motorists, pedestrians and the residents living in its vicinity. … Continue reading

May 2011 – What’s up in The Scenic South Dear Geoff It has been a mad and a sad May for us at the Scenic South. Beautiful autumn days and holiday fun mixed with coming to terms with the passing of Viv’s Mother and the horror of the Masi fire. Our articles reflect the generous response of the broader community for the people at Masi, as always a celebration of our natural heritage and isssues and information re voting stations and lists of councillors for the election tomorrow. A selection of quotes about elections and democracy to think about…and smile! … Continue reading

April 2011 - What’s up in The Scenic South Dear Geoff Water and energy are hot topics locally and internationally. We responded with articles about being water efficient and covered some of the energy debates. The tragic and devastating Tsunami in Japan has focused our attention on the need to be as locally resilient as possible. The after-shock on the global economy is still coming. Did you know that the earthquake shifted Japan 2.5m closer to the USA!! And in spite of reassurances, Fukushima nuclear plant has been upped to a level 7 disaster, the most serious and the same level as Chernobyl. … Continue reading

2010- What’sup in The Scenic South Dear Geoff 2010 is almost history. Northern hemisphere folk have the advantage of short days to remind them to slow down and recharge their batteries. There candles set the scene for festive traditions with families and friends. Our summer holidays seem to rush at us, as, barely recovered from Matric Madness and exams we frantically balance final deadlines at work with year end festivities. In this hyper-energised state, it is hard to prioritize taking time out for oneself and the special people in our lives. Just do it and start 2011 centered and invigorated. … Continue reading

Dear Friends, I have put a post on the Scenic South website (see the link below) about the City of Cape Town‘s court action against TMNP and reports in the media that the City wants to take back Boulders and Cape Point. Ongoing effective management of TMNP is critical to the quality of life of residents in CT , to our economy and to survival of our local bio-diversity. Please read the article and add your views. It is important enough to get a debate going which can hopefully help the City and TMNP move forward on this. http://www.scenicsouth.co.za/2010/09/is-the-nature-of-table-mountain-national-park-in-balance/ With … Continue reading
