Current Situation
Position at March 2011
The development was granted permission on environmental grounds by the Provincial Department of Environmental and Development Planning (DEA&DP) on 16th April 2010.
The STCA, whilst supporting the development in principle, is appealing this decision on the following grounds:
- Excessive density – some 10 times that in surrounding developments leading to…
- Unsustainable loading on local and regional infrastructure
- Unacceptable visual impact, and
- Insufficient cognisance of objections to the BAR taken into account by the Department in arriving at its decision.
The developer has also applied to the City of Cape Town for Planning Permission, but this cannot be granted without the applicant first receiving environmental approval.
The development is therefore at a stand still until the Minister decides on the appeal.
